HISTORY OF : 157 DREAM GUITAR
After the Page/Plant tour of 1995; Robert Plant, Charlie Jones and I met in a hotel in Somerset to discuss a new project which turned into The Strange Sensation band.
When we started working at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, I needed a simple acoustic to work out some guitar parts for the 2002 “DREAMLAND” tour and album.
Whilst walking around the city of Bath, searching for a cup of tea, I came upon the 157 DREAM GUITAR in an old antique junk store.
She ended up being my main guitar for working out songs and parts at home for many years, including pieces that I wrote when I rejoined The Cure for the “4:13 DREAM” album, songs such as “Underneath The Stars”, “The Real Snow White”, etc., and many others not yet used or released.
After spending sometime out in The Mojave Desert, falling victim to the intense 131*Fahrenheit heat; she unfortunately drew her final breath and sang her last song.
As you can see in the photos; now old, cracked, and unplayable~
I did not have the heart to just throw this close friend away and so decided to embellish it’s decayed beauty and capture it’s energy: hence the womanly surreal figure on the back surrounded in a cloak of gold and black paint.
I hope it finds a happy space in it’s new visual spirit form as a painting, continuing to inspire.
